Thinking about what to pack during your trip to Iceland? I have you covered!
Visiting Iceland during the summer season is magical! Blooming lupine, singing loá, and midnight sun promise a dreamy, ethereal experience as you tour the countryside!
I have visited Iceland in all seasons and think they all have unique charms, but summer is the most travel-friendly due to abundant daylight and fewer chances for inclement weather. Plus, the highlands are open, and these otherwordly landscapes are a must-see during your visit if you want to go off the beaten path!
Of all the questions I see posted in Iceland travel groups, one of the biggest is what should I pack? I am an “over-packer,” so I understand the dilemma of needing to travel light yet worried that you may forget that one piece of clothing you need.
Plus, when you are traveling by camper van, there is just so much sh*t you can fit inside those things before it feels cramped.
Believe it or not, packing for Iceland in the summer is simple! The key to dressing in Iceland is layers, layers, layers, and always bring a waterproof jacket along, especially if venturing near waterfalls!
During summer in Iceland, you can expect:
- 24 hours of daylight from late June through July, allowing plenty of time to explore!
- Average temperatures peaking around 50-55 degrees F/ 10-13 C!
- Tourist attractions and campgrounds are busier but easier to access than in winter months!
- Puffins, puffins, and more puffins!
- Some rain, some wind, and possibly some light snow in the highlands!
Last August, I spent four weeks in Iceland and realized I had way overpacked when one of my suitcasescomposed a list of what I used/wore the most, just sat there. When I left, I and I wanted to share it with you!
My Iceland summer packing list is now live! You can access it here.
Along with tour recommendations, you will also find optional items to pack, a photography packing list, and travel tips, such as what apps to download!
Be sure to follow me as I head back to the land of the fire and ice soon for even more camper van adventures, including several days photographing puffins at Vestmanneyjar and exploring the beautiful West Fjords!
Good travels, or as they say in Iceland, Goða ferð!
