This photograph was taken during golden hour on Europe’s largest puffin colony, the otherworldly Vestmannaeyjar Island. Puffins are special birds. Mating for life and spending most of their lives alone at sea during the winter, these one-of-a-kind seabirds won many hearts with their unusual appearance and charisma.

 

Atlantic puffins, as beloved as they are, are listed as a vulnerable species due to widespread population decline. They are the reason visitors flock to Iceland and Maine in the summer months, and continue to inspire my photography.
